First off, if you’re contemplating on this television because of the brand name, so was I at first. I looked at this tv for about a week before I decided to go through with the purchase, I personally had never heard of the brand Hiteker. And with only being able to see roughly three televisions available from them I was leery about it. I figured “Why the hell not, Amazon has a 30 day return policy if something happens.”

This television has left a BIG impression on me. NOTE: I purchased this tv for use in my bedroom (typical usage, little bit of tv before bed, occasional movie, etc). This tv not only hit all my check marks of having the features I needed (3 HDMI ports, at least 32″ and 1080p resolution) but has been able to hold it’s own compared to other larger LCD tv’s in my house (LG and Samsung). Light weight for the size, simple setup took less than 3 minutes to have it hooked up to my cable box and was watching tv. I mean you honestly can’t beat a tv that is fairly well built for such a *low price. (* The price of purchase was close to around $240 but I had a $50 Amazon gift card so got it for cheaper plus I purchased a 3 years warranty for $20. I mean you can’t beat a tv with features like this for $200 or less, specially the size.)

    Pros:
    – Perfect for a bedroom television (honestly couldn’t see this being used as a main tv, but also I’ve had 47″+ in my living room for over 5+ years now)
    – 3 HDMI ports, most tv’s (I know LG specially) of this size and price only have 2 HDMI if you’re lucky (for me cable box, Roku, and x360 when in the bedroom)
    – Shipped and received two days from order (directly from Amazon so return policy played a factor for me)
    – Was able to get the tv and 3 year warranty for $200! (see above paragraph)

    Cons:
    – No wifi / apps (for some this is a big selling point, but for my case I bought the Roku for Netflix, Amazon video, etc and it is honestly the better option in terms of price. $200 tv + $100 Roku = $300 tv you will NOT get from any big name for that price)
    – Speakers are not the best (if you play with the audio options and turn on the Surround Sound options it GREATLY improves audio immensely)
    – Most brands put their name on the product, apparently not with Hiteker. If it wasn’t for the manual I honestly couldn’t tell you the brand name.
    – Remote is made from SUPER cheap plastic (but doesn’t really matter to me since the TWC remote will be used mainly with the tv programmed)

NOTE: This is a review for only having a product the first few days. I will post if any issues show themselves in time but in the meantime this is a GREAT bedroom television. Paying for a name doesn’t always been it’s always a great product!

I got the 3 year warranty. After 2 tries with a similar RCA model that sells for $250, I returned those and will keep the Hiteker. But I don’t love it.

It does have one bad pixel dead center, but it’s a soft gray that can be mistaken for dust. I simply can’t see it unless I look carefully up close, whether the screen is dark or light. Compared to the RCAs that I returned, one had 2 totally black stuck pixels side-by-side (extremely prominent in bright screens), and the other had a stuck bright blue pixel that stood out strongly in dark scenes. The Hiteker screen is very imperfect but acceptable. The overall quality of the RCA TV was clearly better, but its screen defects and headphone jack hum were unacceptable.

The Hitker has a much cheaper stand, the RCA had a nice heavy glass stand. The remote also is cheap, and sometimes seems to lag. General channel changing performance is good and fast though for analog and HD channels.

The headphone jack on the Hiteker is acceptable. There is a slight hum, but only at the loudest volume. The RCAs both had unusable headphone jacks, the hum was as loud as the sound.

The closest thing to a dealbreaker is the automatic contrast adjustments. You can’t turn it off, and the TV, to my eyes, seems to constantly flicker with contrast adjustments. Both in TV tuner mode and HDMI inputs, no setting disables it. Several times a minute it adjusts contrast, whether or not it’s necessary. Even sitting on a windows desktop with nothing happening, the TV will adjust the contrast at least a few times a minute. I hate it. The screen seems to attempt an adjustment and then change its mind and go back. This is all subtle, happens rather quickly, and maybe other cheap TVs do this to some extent. But in my opinion, this one is the worst I’ve ever seen.

The upside of this is, the darks are never too dark, and the brights are never washed out. I could turn off auto contrast on the RCA, but then dark scenes were too dark. When i adjusted for that, bright scenes were washed out. Basically, cheap panels need auto contrast. But does it have to flicker like that during automatic adjustments? Can’t the adjustments be gradual instead of a sudden flicker?

If I can’t live with it, I’ll give it to my mom. She will never notice the contrast adjustments, and otherwise it’s a no-brainer if you want a cheap TV. Get the 3 year warranty just in case this is too good to be true. We still don’t know if they will blow up in a couple of months.

UPDATE: after just a few days I can’t stand the way this TV adjusts contrast. The flicker makes me blink, and it actually gets disorienting. I went over to check my friend’s Visio TV, and it was such a relief to my eyes. I don’t know, maybe my mom wouldn’t notice it, but now I won’t give this TV to her, I’ll probably return it. I absolutely hate it now. If you don’t notice the ridiculous flickering contrast adjustments then this is a great deal. If you notice it and don’t like it, it’s junk.

This was a great deal. It has brilliant picture quality and was budget friendly. Don’t be thrown off by the brand, I had never heard of it either. It has all the plugs in the back, we can even just a headphone-sized jack to plug our stereo in. I love it, I highly recommend.
